4-H HABIT Adult Mentors
Last updated on October 17, 2008
Logo

Adults who enjoy meeting new people, working with elementary school children, and knowing that they make a difference in the life of a child will love this opportunity. Adults will take the lead at each site and will be asked to plan weekly activities with the help of the program coordinator. These activities will focus on character education, respect, teamwork, cooperation, anger management, and variety of other skills that mentees in the group need help with. Mentors will be asked to make at least a one-year commitment to the program and to the child/group they are matched with. Mentors will be provided with an orientation to the program and will be matched with one or four children in 3rd – 6th grades. We'll help to make the initial introductions and weekly activities as well as some group outings.

Adult mentors will meet with their mentoring groups at one of the following the elementary schools Leonard in Ovid, Gateway North in St. Johns Waldron in Fowler, and Bath Elementary in Bath after school and will work with other adult and/or teen mentors at each site.

Mentors will need to commit for the school year and for special outings during the summer. Mentor applicants will need to provide names of personal references and complete MSU Extensions volunteer selection. Mentors will attend orientation and training sessions.
