Our communities are faced with a growing homebound population. The Adopt a Meal Route Project is an effort to expand local church, business, and community organization involvement in this important service. We have three seperate meal adoptions programs: DIRECT ADOPTION: The delivery team will meet at the local Meals on Wheels site to pick up food and receive route instructions. Staff will be available to train the volunteers and will be just a phone call away if questions come up during meal delivery. Meal routes on average take about an hour and extend about tewenty miles round trip. Volunteers do need to provide their own vehicles. In order to protect the vulnerablility and exploitation of our seniors, all volunteers are required to submit to a basic criminal background check with fees paid by the North Georgia Community Action, Inc. CHURCH OR ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATION: A congregation would agree to take repsponsibilty for the delivery of a meal route a minimum one day per month. This is an easy and effective way for congregations to involve themselves in outreach to local community seniors. BUSINESS PARTICIPATION: The Meals-on-Wheels Adopt a Route Project is an easy and effective way for business to get involved in their local communities. With as few as eight employees, a group can Adopt a Route and deliver meals one day a week. By rotating delivery teams, individual staff memebers would only deliver once a month, but the business team would help seniors every week. Volunteers are essential in our effots to keep our waiting lists to a minimum and provide meals to homebound seniors requesting meals.
Volunteers must submit to a basic criminal background check with fees paid by North Georgia Community Action, Inc. This opportunity is sponsored by: Meals On Wheels
